Sextants

Navigation sextant uses mirrors to bring the image of the sun, moon or stars to the horizon and so measure the height of the object. Knowing the elevation of the sun and the time of the day, the latitude at which the observer is can be determined. This determination is made quite accurately by applying simple mathematical calculations.
